The Yaesu FT-857D

The 857 just installed in the shack, the amp buffer is almost as big as the rig!
This is one nice radio! For the price, now less than 700 dollars shipped, the 857D provides you with 160m-70cm (less 220mhz) with all-mode coverage, 100 watts output on 160-6 meters, 50 watts on 2 meters, and 20 watts on 70cm, comes standard with the DSP-2 (approx 70 bucks) which is in my opinion one of the main reasons this radio shines. The AF DSP is really amazing, at 120hz bandwidth it sounds like 120hz! I used mine in a major CW contest while waiting on another radio to arrive. I was pleasantly surprised. So much in fact, I removed the mount from the van, mounted it underneath my shelf on my desk, and there it has sat ever since, I use it for a dedicated 6 meter rig, and a vhf/uhf fm operation, it works great and it's also my "scanner" with all the local police and rescue channels programmed in it, it works great. I really love this little radio!!
