Smoking will kill you and those around you!!
One of the easiest things I have ever done was to lay down cigarettes this past Dec 31st, at 6pm. I thought about running out the grab a final pack, to go out in a big final puffing match till to clock struck midnight, but common sense took hold, and I rationalized that if I was going to stop, I might as well get an early start on it.
The first 3 or 4 days were tough, I am not going to lie, but if you have any will power whatsoever, you can stop. And you should stop. Everybody has someone who loves them. Even if your mother is the ONLY one, that's still someone who would rather see you alive and in good health. After 4 months, I never even think about cigarettes, not even with my morning coffee. I do enjoy my Wrigley's spearmint gum. I used nicotine gum during the first couple of months and I highly recommend it. It soothes the cravings in a big way, and I don't think it would have be nearly as easy without it.
A co-worker stopped the same time I did and she used the patch, after 11 days she was about to climb the walls, so she took off the patch one morning, waited patiently until she felt it was out of her system (the patches nicotine) and started puffing away, she smokes more than she did before.
One thing that really helps me is the fact that I feel so much better, it reinforces me to stay off of cigarettes. And there is always the stories in the paper of people dying of cancer due to smoking, this really helps me. So many people wait until they get that terrible news that they have some dreaded illness from smoking to finally quit. Hell that's the time to start! I mean it's probably too late then.
It's so nice to have that awful smell out of my clothes, and off my fingers and hands. When a smoker passes me I can smell them a mile away. I really feel sorry for those non-smokers with smoking spouses, WHEW, what a stinker, could you imagine kissing an ashtray?
As they say, there is nothing like a reformed smoker.
UPDATE
Now at 7 months, feel even better still, and hate the odor of tobacco, I really can't see me ever lighting up again! If you smoke, remember, it's never too late to quit! I figure with the Nicotine Gum it cost me about 200-300 bucks to get off that train. I went thru the 4mg gum like crazy, and that's the generic no name brand, double the price if you must have Nicorette. But honestly EVERYTHING is better without tobacco in your life. You will begin to feel better within 3 days of stopping, no kidding, if you don't believe me, just try it!
